What Insurance Do You Take?

With all of the madness in the health/dental insurance industry these days we are often asked for advice, thoughts, tips etc. on selecting dental insurance.

In a nutshell, our office is “in network” with many providers as long as the dental insurance plan is a PPO plan. Many of these same insurance companies have HMO plans (managed care) or discount plans which we are not able to accept in our office.

So, our recommendation is always to stick with a PPO plan when selecting insurance which gives you the most control of which doctors/dentists you are able to see.

Also, look at deductibles, maximum coverage, and percentage of Preventative, Basic and Major care. Plans we most commonly see are: $50 deductibles (waived for preventative care), $1000+ maximum (yearly), and coverage of 100% preventative, 80% basic, and 50% major. Basic services are usually services such as fillings, periodontal work, extractions, and root canals. Major services typically include crowns, bridges and implants.

Finally, here’s a list of the major dental insurance carriers that we are currently in network with and submitting claims to. We do have a few others in addition to this list, but this covers 98% of our patients. Feel free to contact us if you have questions about how to best cover your family’s dental insurance needs.
